about the coach

John Hampson was appointed as Club Coach at Bundoora Tennis Club from the start of 2007.

Previously John has worked for three years as a Physical Education teacher at Lilydale High school. He developed and coordinated the Excellence in Sport Tennis program which was so successful that it received a grant from Tennis Victoria.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities he was also the head coach at the Diamond Valley Church Tennis Club and at La Trobe University Bundoora campus. Prior to this he worked as an assistant coach for six years while completing his Physical Education degree (with a secondary school major in psychology). The combination of his knowledge of teaching methodologies, tennis play, and psychology along with his vibrant personality allows John to use his exceptional interpersonal communication skills to create a highly enjoyable and productive learning environment.

Throughout his eight years of tennis coaching John has coached in numerous settings. He was also an integral part of many Tennis Victoria initiative programs for primary schools. He was one of the selectors for the U/12’s and U/10’s state squad. He is also a qualified ITN provider. Additionally, John was coach of Eltham College’s tennis teams which involved supervising training and traveling to matches over a two year period. John has also had much experience training both middle aged women and members of Rosanna’s disability day care centre.
