• BTC 2010 Social Players Christmas Dinner

Held Saturday December 11th.

Attended by over 30 players and partners this event has become an annual ritual and a highlight for all those who participate in Saturday social tennis at Bundoora. The social players have two functions every year…an afternoon high-tea in about June and an end of year Christmas dinner.

This years dinner was held at the Club rooms in a very convivial atmosphere with a surprise visit from Santa (Keith Zappelli) bearing gifts, some short speeches (thankfully) and lots of delicious food and drinks (including Bellini…a delicious peach and champagne cocktail!). A rolling slide show of over 300 photos from previous similar functions over the years served as a backdrop to the evenings festivities.

The menu consisted of gourmet finger food for starters, an entrée of Salmon fillet baked in soy and honey served on spinach and rocket, followed by a main course of juicy Turkey breast accompanied by spinach and ricotta stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and a choice of salads. Who says you can't have great food on a budget?

For those that still had room, dessert was plum pudding with brandy custard and cream and fruit mince pies! All the social players expect to add at least one extra set to their usual Saturday tally to help run off some of the extra calories!

The dinner was also attended by our Club President, Mathew Testolin who represented the committee and by all reports had a great night…despite hanging out with people who were often more than twice his age!

The social players Christmas dinner would not be possible without the involvement of all concerned from those who helped by making salads, buying drinks, setting the room up, serving food, or Santa visiting. Special mention goes to John McCully acting as our honorary treasurer during the year and Margaret McCully taking a leading hand in food preparation on day whilst being ably assisted by several of the ladies present.
